Last night I went to see this guy, formerly of the band Men At Work , at this place.

(back Up)

First I walked around the Fairfax district, and I noticed there are tons of skater shops going up. Goodbye Jewish community, hello skateboard shops and the new wave of hipster youth. Oy Vey.

So I go into Cosmic Pizza to kill some time before the show, and I’m drinking my glass of Pinot Noir… and I’m talking to Rod.

(fast forward)

Rod is a 60-something year old Vietnam Vet… he was an animal psychologist in his youth. We were both going to see the show. He had long hair and a pony tail. He drank Heineken. He had a nervous twitch. He was your grandfather. He was my grandfather. He was lonely. He talked. I listened. He talked. His face lit up when he talked about animals. We talked for over 45 minutes. Well, more like he talked, I listed. This is our past. This was our lives. This is who you will be in 20, 30, 40 years.

Me and Rod. Sitting in a pizza place shaped like a spaceship. Talking about who we used to be. Killing time…

  • He trained monkeys at UCLA for a NASA mission.
  • He worked years getting monkeys to push buttons in sequence when prompted (so they could go into space).
  • He spends his free times these days developing a rabbit mechanism that acquaints displaced cougars back into the wild.

(Pause, Fast Forward, Rewind, PLAY)

So the concert was good. Not great. Not amazing. Just good.

The venue had slow service, but the food was tasty (Chicken Picatta with mashed potatoes and asparagus was on my plate).

Colin has a distinct voice that is quite melodic. He did his signature “Who Can It Be Now” and “Down Under”. He was actually quite funny and entertaining, as he spoke of the myriad adventures of what prompted the writing of his earlier songs.

17 cents. That's that checks he receives for some of his songs. You're lifes work... boiled down to the change you find in the lint screen.

P.S. Muse is on vacation… so you’ll have to settle for ATG’s rendition of last eve’s events.

Dig it.

So I’m about to brush my teeth. It’s Lazy-Daze-SunDaze at ATG’s pad. I get out of the shower (so fresh and so clean), slather on some lotion, dress… the usual. I’m cleaning, humming, dancing around (the usual), a Woody Allen flick is playing in the background (Alice)…. And I head to the bathroom sink. I look into the mirror and spontaneously start humming a song I’ve never heard before… but was written in my soul from me to you. I stop. I’m ready to brush my teeth (which, consequently, is the last stop of my morning ritual before heading out).

I use this whitening pre-rinse (sort of like a pre-brush mouthwash… I drink a lot of coffee, gotta make sure my teeth stay pearly!), so I take a swig (mint-y tasting, yet it gets all foamy as you swish it around, which makes me gag). Anyway, I’m there swishing, and suddenly a Dance hits me like a freight train. It’s in me. I HAVE to let it out. So I start, wailing around, thrashing dancing like MUSEic hit me in the gut with a baseball bat.

Suddenly.

The pre-wash, mint-y tasting, foam in your mouth… shoots up the back of my throat and into my nose canal.

ACCCCCCCCCCHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhOOOOOoooooooooooooooooo

Breath

Breath

ACCCCCCCCCCHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhOOOOOoooooooooooooooooo

Brea..

ACCCCCCCCCCHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhOOOOOoooooooooooooooooo

ACCCCCCCCCCHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhOOOOOoooooooooooooooooo

Breath.

The pre-wash, mint-y tasting, foam in your mouth… spews all over the bathroom.

Sneezes so hardy… Snow White would be proud.

I’m choking

I’m laughing

I’m choking

My nose burns.

My eyes water.

I’m choking

I’m laughing.

Yeah.

I’m laughing.

Just another day in the life…

Totally off the topic: The Move (e) revue:

Disturbia: ok. I’d wait for the rental

The Reaping: ok. If I would have paid for this movie, I’d a been like “uh, yeah it wasn’t half bad, entertaining)

Martian Boy: very cute, not to mention I LOVE John Cusack.

Year of the Dog; horrible. I wouldn’t rent it. I wouldn’t see it. I love Molly Shannon, this is one of the worst films I’ve seen this year.

Now for a word from our sponsors:

Conversation with my mom the other day:

ATG: so I think I’m going to volunteer at a hospice.

MOM: why?

ATG: hm… I feel like I haven’t been exposed to death enough, I mean, I’m not getting any younger and it’s inevitable that folks are going to start dropping like flies.

MOM: are you afraid I’m going to die?

ATG: -uncomfortable pause- well, not really, I mean, I know it’s going to happen sooner or later, so I just want to be exposed to more of it. Who knows, my number could be up before yours is. Death. I mean. No sense in getting worked up over something that’s inevitable, you know?

MOM: yeah.

Do I believe in God?

I’m what you would call a teleological-existential atheist...

I believe that there is an intelligence to the universe with the exception of certain parts of New Jersey.

Haven’t done one of these in a while:

Celeb encounter of the week: Stevie Wonder

Now that’s an encounter I’m not embarrassed to share!

Nothing like being in a dance club, and having Stevie walk in, and suddenly the DJ puts on a classic mix of all Stevie songs, and everyone is screaming “You Can Feel It All Over” like they made it up themselves.

Music: transcends color lines, social class, and everything in between.

That’s why you should check out Steve’sSpace… he know’s his MUSEic.

Dig it.
